Environmental Packer Services

Experience and Services Provided

Based on 30 years experience with inflatable packers, The Well Improvement Company is capable of providing packer assemblies for many environmental applications. Our goal is to provide packer assemblies to obtain the highest quality data cost-effectively. Each packer assembly is custom designed to satisfy the objectives of the project or study. The assemblies are often quite complex and are typically pre-assembled in-shop and thoroughly tested to minimize problems during field installation. Because of their high quality and dependability, Baski Inflatable Packers are used for the assemblies. Assemblies can be prepared for boreholes ranging from 2 to 12 inches. All WIC personnel are OSHA certified in accordance with 29 CFR 1910.120.

Depending on the project requirements, pressure transducers can be positioned within the zone of interest and above and below the zone to monitor vertical permeability and cross-communication. Based on their trouble free performance, and the data acquisition software, Dynotek Slimline Pressure Transducers are used when transducers are requested for a project. If only general cross-contamination information is desired, airlines can be used instead of pressure transducers. Packer assemblies can be configured to allow fluids to be removed from the well for chemical analysis, contaminant evaluation, flow analysis, and permeability testing. In an injection scenario, zone permeability can be studied, hydrofracturing can be performed, and treatment chemicals can be precisely placed for ground water remediation.

The WIC can simply custom design, pre-assemble, and test the packer string and deliver it for owner installation. Beyond that, the equipment can be assembled, installed in the well, the samples and pressure data can be collected, treatment chemicals can be mixed and injected, and the equipment can be removed and decontaminated. In a multi-well project, each well can be equipped or the packer string can be moved to subsequent wells for testing, sampling, or injection.

Each installation is designed to meet the specific needs of the project. Permanent installations can be provided to allow periodic sampling or injection treatment. Depending on geologic conditions and the nature of the product, the packer string can be placed in an open hole or in a cased well.
